Agege leader launches free holiday coaching for SS1-SS3 students

Hon. Abdulganiyu Vinod Obasa, the Executive Chairman of Agege Local Government, has launched a free holiday coaching programme for senior secondary students in Lagos State on Monday 27 July 2026.

The initiative will provide academic support to learners in SS1 to SS3 across all seven wards of Agege from 17 August to 11 September 2026.

The programme runs daily from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at designated centres in each ward.

It covers students in Science, Commercial, and Arts streams, aiming to strengthen their knowledge, build confidence, and better prepare them for examinations and future success.

Hon. Obasa emphasised the importance of removing financial barriers to education. “No child should be denied the opportunity to excel because of financial constraints,” he stated. “When we invest in education today, we secure a brighter, more prosperous Agege tomorrow.”

This commendable step reflects a growing recognition among local leaders that targeted academic intervention during long holidays can significantly improve student outcomes.

Many families in urban areas like Agege struggle with the cost of private lessons, leaving some students at a disadvantage after the regular school term ends.

Agege, like many parts of Lagos, has a large youth population eager for opportunities.

Previous local government efforts in education have included infrastructure upgrades and scholarship schemes, but this free holiday coaching stands out for its direct reach to hundreds of students across all wards during the long vacation period.

Parents and guardians have welcomed the announcement, seeing it as a valuable chance for their children to revise key subjects and close learning gaps without added expense.

One guardian whose child will benefit noted how such programmes often spark renewed enthusiasm for learning among teenagers.

By making quality teaching accessible to every interested student regardless of background, the initiative highlights the powerful role local governance can play in human capital development.

It contributes to the broader goal of raising a generation equipped to lead and innovate in Nigeria’s competitive environment.

Hon. Abdulganiyu Vinod Obasa encouraged full participation and expressed confidence that the four-week programme would yield positive results.

This thoughtful investment in young minds offers a promising example of community-focused leadership at the grassroots level.
