RSS makes history as Class of 2026 holds first-of-its-kind university-style valedictory service

Remo Secondary School held a landmark valedictory service for its Class of 2026 in Ogun State on Saturday, 25 July 2026, as the historic institution staged its first university-style graduation ceremony, with students, teachers and alumni leaders wearing full academic regalia in a celebration designed to honour academic achievement and inspire future success.

The ceremony brought together graduating students, parents, teachers, school administrators, members of the Remo Secondary School Old Students’ Association (RSSOSA) and distinguished guests.

The event marked a significant departure from the traditional format of public secondary school valedictory services, creating an atmosphere more commonly associated with university convocations.

Graduating students walked in academic gowns and mortarboards, while school leaders, teachers and the national executives of RSSOSA also wore graduation robes, adding a memorable touch to what organisers described as a first-of-its-kind ceremony for the school.

A major highlight of the event was the recognition of students who demonstrated outstanding character, discipline and moral excellence.

Awards were presented across several categories, celebrating achievements beyond academic performance and reinforcing the school’s emphasis on leadership and responsible citizenship.

The ceremony also delivered a powerful boost to the graduates’ future ambitions as the Hope Bridge Social Impact Foundation awarded full higher education scholarships to about 25 deserving students.

The scholarships are expected to support the beneficiaries as they pursue tertiary education.

Speaking during the ceremony, President of the Remo Secondary School Old Students’ Association, Sir Aare Adetola Emmanuelking, KOF, congratulated the graduating students and commended the commitment of teachers, parents and the school management.

He also praised the Ogun State Government, led by Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, MFR, CON, for prioritising education through reforms and investments across public schools.

According to Sir Aare Adetola Emmanuelking, “The Governor’s keen attention to education and the deliberate interventions of his administration have had a positive ripple effect that has extended to institutions such as Remo Secondary School, contributing to the school’s continued growth and development.”

The RSSOSA president further acknowledged the state’s Yellow Revolution initiative, describing it as an important intervention that has improved learning environments across Ogun State.

He also commended Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Abayomi Arigbabu, for his leadership in advancing educational development.

The strong participation of alumni throughout the event underscored the enduring relationship between the school and its old students.

Their presence reflected continued support for projects aimed at strengthening the institution and mentoring future generations.

The Remo Secondary School 2026 Graduation comes at a time when schools across Nigeria are increasingly seeking innovative ways to celebrate academic milestones and encourage excellence among students.

By adopting a university-style ceremony while recognising academic achievement, character and community support, Remo Secondary School has introduced a distinctive model that could inspire similar ceremonies in other public secondary schools.
