Eddie Bliss apology follows Mercy Johnson dropping defamation case, marking the content creator’s release and public remorse in Lagos

Content creator Eddie Bliss publicly apologised to Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson and her family in Lagos on Tuesday, following the dropping of a defamation lawsuit and Bliss’s release from police custody.

The dispute began when Eddie Bliss shared unverified content from the online blog Cutie Julls, which falsely accused Mercy Johnson and her husband, Prince Henry Okojie, of misconduct.

The post caused significant distress to the family and drew widespread attention.

In a heartfelt statement, Eddie Bliss acknowledged her error, admitting she had acted irresponsibly by reposting the content without verifying its accuracy.

Bliss said, “I came across a post from a blog online called Cutie Julls, and I picked the post and posted it on my page without verifying the information. Apparently, that particular video caused a lot of harm and hurt to the family of Mr and Mrs Okojie. I am sincerely sorry for whatever damage I must have caused the family.”

The content creator also expressed gratitude to Mercy Johnson for withdrawing the lawsuit, noting the relief it brought to her own family.

In the caption accompanying her apology video, Bliss wrote, “Thank you so much, ma, I do appreciate your kindness. I am also very sorry for the inconvenience I caused you and your family. God bless you again.”

Eddie Bliss was arrested after Mercy Johnson reported her to the police for spreading false and damaging allegations.

The actress had previously warned against misinformation but chose to drop the charges out of respect for those who appealed to her.

Legal observers highlighted the case as a reminder of the consequences of sharing unverified material on social media.

The resolution, with Bliss’s public apology, has been praised for promoting accountability and setting a positive example for online conduct.

With the lawsuit formally withdrawn, both Eddie Bliss and Mercy Johnson’s families have expressed a desire to move forward, bringing closure to a matter that captured national attention.
