Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson has dropped all charges against TikToker Eedie Bliss, leading to her release from detention after widespread social media backlash

Popular Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson has secured the release of TikTok content creator Eedie Bliss after dropping all charges against her, following intense public backlash on social media.

Eedie Bliss regained her freedom on Saturday, January 17, 2026, just hours after online critics and activists intensified calls for her release, describing her detention as excessive.

The development came after controversial social media commentator, VeryDarkMan, publicly criticised the actress, accusing her of oppression and stressing that defamation is a civil matter, not a criminal offence.

VeryDarkMan, who joined other Nigerians in demanding the TikToker’s release, issued an ultimatum to the actress earlier on Saturday.

Moments later, he confirmed that Eedie Bliss had been released from police custody.

Announcing the development on Instagram, he wrote:
“@MercyJohnsonOkojie, thank you very much, my GREATEST OF ALL TIME, for dropping the case. Moving on, I am buying all defamation cases against Mercy Johnson and her family. The bullying is too much. You all should leave her family alone.”

Eedie Bliss had been arrested days earlier over a video she posted on TikTok in December 2025, in which she made allegations involving Mercy Johnson and her husband, Prince Henry Okojie.

In the video, the TikToker alleged that Prince Okojie had recently bought a house for a pregnant mistress.

Citing popular gossip blogger Cutie Juls as her source, she further claimed that Mercy Johnson allegedly connived with the mistress’ house help, leading to a miscarriage.

The allegations sparked outrage online and eventually led to her arrest before the charges were withdrawn.

With the case now dropped, many Nigerians have renewed calls for restraint in handling defamation matters, urging public figures to seek civil remedies rather than criminal prosecution.
