Dettol Nigeria has concluded its “12 Hour Protective Shield” storytelling challenge, rewarding 30 Nigerians for sharing personal experiences with Dettol Original Antibacterial Bar Soap as the brand continues to promote everyday hygiene and strengthen consumer engagement.

The challenge, which ran from July 13 to August 31, 2026, invited participants to share stories about their relationship with Dettol, including childhood memories, family experiences and personal hygiene routines.

Thirty winners were selected after the campaign closed and received cash prizes for their entries.

The initiative formed part of the wider campaign for Dettol Original Soap, built around the product’s advertised 12-hour protection against 99.9 per cent of illness-causing germs.

Under the campaign theme, “12 Hours, Protection That Moves With You,” the brand emphasised the importance of maintaining hygiene throughout daily activities.

Beyond its digital storytelling component, Dettol extended the campaign to consumers through in-market activations across multiple states in Nigeria.

The activities featured product education, demonstrations, handwashing stations and direct consumer engagement.

Boma Harrison, Marketing Director at Reckitt West Africa, said the challenge provided an opportunity for Nigerians to share their personal experiences with the brand and explain what protection means to them and their families.

“We were particularly pleased to give Nigerians the opportunity to share their personal Dettol stories and hear what protection means to them and their families,” Harrison said.

She added that the stories reflected Dettol’s longstanding presence in Nigerian households while reinforcing the importance of hygiene in everyday life.

By combining consumer-generated stories with physical brand activations, the campaign sought to deepen the connection between Dettol Original and its users while encouraging conversations about hygiene practices at home and beyond.

The conclusion of the challenge highlights the role of storytelling in brand communication, allowing consumers to contribute personal experiences to a campaign while giving brands additional opportunities to engage audiences across digital and physical platforms.
