Babatunde Odutola, a 36-year-old registered sex offender, was jailed in the United Kingdom after exposing himself and masturbating in front of a woman on a train travelling towards Manchester.

Manchester Magistrates’ Court sentenced Babatunde Odutola to 44 weeks in prison on Monday 14 September 2026.

He pleaded guilty to one count of outraging public decency and to breaching a suspended sentence order.

The British Transport Police released details of the case on Thursday 17 September 2026.

The offence happened at about 7pm on Friday 11 September on a train moving through Cheshire towards Manchester Piccadilly.

Police said Babatunde Odutola approached the woman, looked her up and down in an intimidating way and became aggressive when she did not engage.

He then exposed himself while seated in a wheelchair and masturbated while looking at her and telling her to “come over”.

Another passenger, distressed by what was happening, escorted the woman from the carriage. CCTV showed Babatunde Odutola continuing as other passengers passed through.

Officers arrested him when the train reached Manchester Piccadilly. British Transport Police Detective Constable Leonidas Christoforou said the victim had been travelling alone. “Odutola is clearly an incredibly dangerous individual and his disturbing behaviour must have been terrifying for the victim, who he singled out when she was travelling on her own,” Detective Constable Leonidas Christoforou said.

Babatunde Odutola denied the allegations in interview. He pleaded guilty after investigators put CCTV and witness accounts before the court. “He’s shown little remorse for his actions,” Detective Constable Leonidas Christoforou said. “But a stack of incriminating evidence, including damning CCTV and several witness accounts, left him with little choice but to plead guilty when he appeared in court.”

Police said the case was not a first. Babatunde Odutola was already on the sex offenders register. “This type of alarming, predatory behaviour simply will not be tolerated on our railways,” Detective Constable Leonidas Christoforou said.

The force jailed him within 72 hours of the incident and asked the public to report sexual offences on the railway by texting 61016.

The sentence is custody, not a full accounting of harm. A woman commuting towards Manchester was targeted in a public carriage. Other passengers had to intervene.

The court has now put Babatunde Odutola behind bars for 44 weeks and recorded the breach of an earlier suspended order. British Transport Police say they will keep pursuing offenders who use the railway as a hunting ground.
