2Baba praises Burna Boy as Afrobeats’ leading star, saying the Grammy winner is operating on a different musical level globally

Nigerian music icon Innocent Idibia, professionally known as 2Baba or Tuface, has ignited fresh debate in the Afrobeats industry by naming Burna Boy as the leading artist ahead of Davido and Wizkid.

Speaking during an interview on the Mic On Podcast, hosted by journalist Seun Okinbaloye and shared on social media platform X on Sunday, 2Baba praised Burna Boy’s current musical standing while acknowledging the strengths of all three stars.

2Baba said Burna Boy, whose real name is Damini Ogulu, is operating on a different level musically, even though Davido and Wizkid have both produced hit songs he enjoys.

The African Queen singer stressed that his view was formed under pressure during the interview rather than from any personal bias, noting that artistic comparison can be unfair.

2Baba likened musicians to painters, each creating unique work that appeals differently to audiences, and dismissed the idea of judging artists solely by popularity or commercial success.

He said his assessment was based on his understanding of the global music landscape rather than financial metrics or personal achievements, adding that he had no insight into the artists’ private successes.

According to 2Baba, Burna Boy currently stands at the top of the Afrobeats chain, not only within Nigeria but across Africa and on the global stage, while emphasising that Davido and Wizkid are also performing fantastically well.

The comments have reignited long running conversations among fans and industry observers, as Burna Boy, Davido and Wizkid are often regarded as the top three figures in Nigerian Afrobeats and are frequently compared over who holds the crown as the genre’s leading artist.
