Yobe Police Rescue Abandoned Baby in Damaturu as officers save newborn girl and arrest suspected motorcycle thieves in coordinated operations
The Yobe State Police Command has confirmed the rescue of a newborn baby girl discovered abandoned in Kallalawa Village, Damaturu, on Monday, in an operation carried out by operatives attached to A Division, Damaturu.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed the development in a statement issued in Damaturu, noting that the infant, estimated to be about one day old, was swiftly taken to the Special Baby Care Unit at General Hospital Damaturu for urgent medical attention.
Medical personnel confirmed that the baby girl was in stable condition following examination.
The statement added that the child had been handed over to the Social Welfare Department for proper care and protection, while investigations had commenced to trace the mother and determine the circumstances surrounding the abandonment.
In a separate development, the police command announced the arrest of two suspected motorcycle thieves in Gulani and Jakusko Local Government Areas of the state.
One of the motorcycles was reported stolen on May 25, 2026, by Alhaji Mamman, 27, of Kaliyari Fulani Settlement in Bursari LGA, after it was allegedly taken near a shop along Gwiokura Road at about 4:30 p.m.
Operatives reportedly arrested a suspect while riding the stolen motorcycle along Jakusko Road, with police stating that the suspect confessed during interrogation.
In another incident, Mohammed Garba of Bursali Village, Gulani LGA, was arrested for allegedly snatching a red Boxer motorcycle valued at ₦400,000.
According to the police, the suspect posed as a passenger before diverting the motorcycle during a trip from Maiduwa Village to Ngalda Town in Fika LGA.
Following a distress call and collaboration with local vigilantes, the suspect was tracked and arrested, with the complainant identifying him during investigation.

The Command confirmed that all suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
