Wike urges FCT residents to back Tinubu amid infrastructure gains

Wike Tinubu infrastructure push gains momentum as FCT residents urged to support ongoing road and development projects in satellite towns

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has urged residents to continue supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, citing visible infrastructure improvements across satellite towns as evidence of the administration’s commitment to development.

Wike made the call on Wednesday while addressing residents along the Bwari–Kubwa road during an inspection of ongoing projects, where he reaffirmed the government’s focus on delivering tangible benefits to communities.

According to the minister, the administration’s expanding infrastructure footprint has strengthened public confidence, particularly in areas previously neglected.

“It is very difficult for anybody to win an election in the FCT against Mr President because to them, it is surprising what they have seen in their lives,” Wike said.

He explained that the government deliberately shifted attention to satellite towns following longstanding concerns about the concentration of development within Abuja’s city centre.

“We were told clearly that there is over-concentration of development in the city, and we must go to the satellite towns. These communities are part of Abuja, and their lives must also change,” he added.

During the inspection, Wike expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of projects spanning key corridors, including Karu, Apo-Karshi and the Bwari–Kubwa axis, noting that many communities were witnessing such development for the first time.

He said improved road infrastructure would significantly reduce travel time and enhance connectivity between outlying areas and the city centre, describing the impact as transformative.

“People can now live in places like Kuje and get to work in the city within 25 minutes. That is the kind of impact we are talking about,” the minister stated.

Wike disclosed that several of the projects are scheduled for completion and commissioning as part of activities marking the anniversary of President Tinubu’s administration.

On concerns over real estate practices, the minister rejected calls for the creation of a new regulatory agency, arguing that existing institutions are sufficient to address the challenges.

“The problem in Nigeria is the proliferation of agencies. Creating more agencies will not solve the problem,” he said.

He pointed to the Department of Development Control as the appropriate authority to enforce compliance with the Abuja Master Plan, stressing the need to strengthen existing structures rather than establish new ones.

Wike assured residents that complaints against developers would be addressed and appropriate remedies implemented where necessary.

He also called for unity and cooperation, emphasising that national development requires collective effort, while extending goodwill to Muslim faithful during the Ramadan period.

The Wike Tinubu infrastructure push reflects a broader policy shift aimed at correcting imbalances in urban development, as the Federal Capital Territory Administration intensifies efforts to improve connectivity, living standards and economic opportunities in satellite communities.
