unizik student collapses dead

Azikwe University (UNIZIK) is set to investigate the tragic death of a male student who reportedly jumped from a three-storey building in Awka after allegedly consuming illicit substances

[dropcap]U[/dropcap]NIZIK Student Death Investigation is now underway following a tragic incident late on Thursday that claimed the life of a male student (name withheld) of Nnamdi Azikwe University, Awka, Anambra State.

The Chief Safety Officer at the university has confirmed that a full inquiry will be launched into the circumstances surrounding his demise.

Tragedy struck at a private lodge near Royal Kitchen Junction, Ifite-Awka, in the Awka South Local Government Area of the state when the student reportedly jumped from a three-storey building and died.

It is strongly suspected that the student, prior to the fatal jump, had allegedly consumed “mkpurummiri” (crystal meth) or other unknown illicit substances.

Eyewitnesses near the scene recounted the harrowing moments. After the victim fell to the ground, all efforts to revive him proved abortive. He was swiftly rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later confirmed dead.

One source described the scene: “We suddenly heard a loud thud yesterday (Thursday) evening, prompting a rush to the scene where the young man was found lying in a pool of his blood, critically injured.”

The victim, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of his family, was identified as a tenant in the lodge.

In a shocking development, when concerned residents checked his room, his roommate was discovered in an incoherent state, allegedly under the influence of the same substances they had taken earlier.

“Despite efforts to save him, the student was confirmed dead at a nearby hospital. Authorities are working diligently to contact the deceased’s family and investigate the full circumstances surrounding the incident,” the source added.

It was further gathered that the victim’s roommate is currently in custody and will be questioned extensively once he regains stability.

When contacted for comment on Friday, Ken Chukwurah, the Chief Safety Officer at UNIZIK, stated, “We are still investigating to be sure of what happened, how it happened and the proper identity of the victim.

It happened in a private lodge outside the school, and we don’t have control over who is admitted to such lodges.”
