Tinubu tribute to Buhari highlights integrity, discipline and modest leadership at the launch of the late president’s biography in Abuja
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Monday, December 16, 2025, described the late former President Muhammadu Buhari as a leader of quiet strength, discipline and enduring grace while speaking at the launch of a new biography in Abuja.

The president delivered the remarks at the presentation of From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari, held at the State House Conference Centre in the Federal Capital Territory.
Addressing political leaders, family members and dignitaries at the event, Tinubu said Buhari’s reputation for integrity and modesty would continue to inspire Nigerians long after his time in public office.
“The measure of a leader is not simply the offices he held or the motorcades that accompanied him. It is what persists when the sirens fall silent,” Tinubu said.
President Tinubu noted that Buhari left behind a powerful example of public service rooted in personal discipline, a spartan lifestyle and the belief that leadership is a trust rather than a windfall.
Reflecting on their shared political history, Tinubu recalled working with Buhari to build the coalition that secured the historic victory of the 2015 presidential election.
He said the alliance formed in 2014 had since evolved into what he described as Africa’s fastest-expanding political party.
The president praised the biography for offering an honest account of Buhari’s achievements as well as his limitations, saying the book should serve as a learning tool for future leaders rather than a collection of slogans.
Tinubu described Buhari as a consistent patriot whose honesty was widely acknowledged, even by critics, adding that their partnership underscored the value of cooperation across political and personal differences.
“Nation-building demands that we compete passionately and govern responsibly,” Tinubu said.
“In his memory, let us keep our politics honourable and our governance focused on results.”
