Tinubu 74th birthday: vows support for wounded troops

Tinubu 74th birthday: President pledges nearly three years’ salary to support wounded soldiers and families during Abuja prayers

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday in Abuja marked his 74th birthday with a pledge to donate nearly three years of his salaries to a national fund aimed at supporting wounded soldiers and families of fallen personnel during prayers held at the National Mosque.

The President made the announcement shortly after Islamic clerics led special prayers attended by senior government officials, governors, lawmakers, and religious leaders in a solemn ceremony centred on national unity, reflection, and security concerns.

President Tinubu said the initiative is intended to strengthen long term welfare support for members of the Armed Forces who have sustained injuries in the line of duty, including those living with permanent disabilities.

He stressed that the welfare of military personnel and their families should be treated as a national responsibility, calling for collective action from government institutions, the private sector, and citizens.

The Tinubu 74th birthday military donation pledge was described by the Presidency as “seed funding” designed to reinforce sustained care for service members and their dependants.

The President also appealed to governors, lawmakers, and well wishers to contribute to the proposed fund, highlighting the need for shared responsibility in addressing military welfare challenges.

“Let’s put our hands together to donate, especially to that account,” he said.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that Nigeria would overcome its security challenges through improved military capacity and stronger national unity.

“We will invest in armament to defeat the insurgents,” he stated.

Nigeria continues to grapple with insurgency, banditry, and other violent security threats across several regions of the country.

Thousands of military personnel have been killed or injured in active service over the past decade, leaving many families dependent on limited welfare support systems.

President Tinubu acknowledged economic pressures facing Nigerians but maintained that ongoing reforms would eventually strengthen national stability and development.

He described his 74th birthday as a moment of gratitude and reflection, expressing optimism about Nigeria’s future.

“We can see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel,” he said.

The event drew over 300 Islamic scholars, alongside governors, ministers, lawmakers, and traditional rulers, who offered prayers for peace, unity, and national progress.

Vice President Kashim Shettima described the gathering as a celebration of resilience and service, while Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas praised the President’s leadership at a critical time.

The Nigeria Governors Forum also commended ongoing reforms and infrastructure efforts, as religious leaders led prayers for stability and national cohesion.

The ceremony concluded with renewed calls for unity and continued support for Nigeria’s Armed Forces.
