Spyro demands action over Oyo abduction outcry

Singer Spyro has urged urgent action following the abduction of teachers and students in Oyo State, criticising public silence on insecurity

Nigerian singer Spyro, whose real name is Oludipe Oluwasanmi David, has called for urgent action following the abduction of teachers and students in Oyo State, amid growing concerns over insecurity in the country.

The singer expressed frustration over what he described as a disturbing normalisation of crisis situations, stating that many Nigerians continue daily life despite unresolved security challenges.

Spyro criticised public figures and celebrities whom he accused of remaining silent in the face of national tragedy, arguing that empathy should outweigh political or financial interests.

“It’s the first of June and there’s still no news about the teachers and children that were abducted, and it’s just business as usual in Nigeria,” he said.

He added that politicians continue campaigning while some celebrities remain indifferent, questioning their sense of responsibility.

The singer also reacted strongly to what he described as a lack of empathy among influential figures, stressing that personal comfort should not overshadow human lives.

“You’re a nobody, you’re dust, a sickness can come today and take away everything you think you have as a celebrity,” he said.

The remarks have since sparked renewed debate on social media, with many users divided over his comments on public responsibility and the role of entertainers in national discourse.

Security concerns remain a recurring issue in parts of Nigeria, with repeated incidents of school-related abductions drawing criticism from civil society groups and public figures calling for stronger intervention.

Spyro’s comments add to the growing list of celebrity voices demanding accountability and urgent action from authorities over insecurity in affected regions.
