Chukwuma Soludo, Governor of Anambra State, and his wife, Nonye Soludo, welcomed Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, at Chinua Achebe International Airport in Umueri, Anambra State, on Thursday, September 10, 2026, as the First Lady arrived for an official visit focused on nutrition, community development and digital empowerment.

Oluremi Tinubu arrived at the airport with members of her delegation and was received by Governor Soludo, his wife and other senior Anambra government officials.

The welcoming ceremony took place on the airport tarmac, where Soludo and Nonye Soludo exchanged pleasantries with the First Lady before the delegation proceeded with the scheduled protocol.

The visit forms part of the First Lady’s wider programme of engagements across Nigeria and includes the launch of the National Community Food Bank Programme for the South-East zone.

She is also expected to commission an Information and Communication Technology Centre at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko.

The food bank initiative is designed to support children and women affected by malnutrition, particularly those identified as suffering from moderate or severe acute malnutrition.

Samuel Obasi, Director of the South-East Zone at the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, said the programme is being implemented by the First Lady in collaboration with the agency and partners across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones.

Obasi explained that the Anambra facility is scheduled to be established at Amawbia Primary Health Centre and will serve communities across Anambra Central Senatorial District, while also supporting beneficiaries in the state’s North and South Senatorial Districts.

The initiative reflects the growing focus on tackling malnutrition through targeted community-level interventions, particularly among vulnerable women and children.

The First Lady’s visit also places attention on technology and skills development through the planned commissioning of the ICT centre at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko.

For Anambra, the visit brings together two areas of public policy with immediate community relevance: access to nutrition support and opportunities for digital learning.

Soludo’s reception of the First Lady also provided a formal show of cooperation between the state government and the Federal Government as Tinubu begins her scheduled engagements in the state.

The presence of the governor’s wife, senior officials and other members of the welcoming delegation underscored the importance attached to the visit.

The First Lady is expected to continue with her official programme in Anambra following her arrival, with the community food bank and ICT centre among the key engagements on her itinerary.

The visit comes as government and development agencies continue to seek practical approaches to reducing malnutrition while expanding access to technology and skills for young Nigerians.

For Anambra communities, the planned food bank is expected to provide targeted support for vulnerable families, while the ICT centre is intended to strengthen access to digital resources and learning opportunities.

The engagements therefore combine immediate social support with longer-term investment in human capacity, giving Oluremi Tinubu’s visit a strong community development focus.
