Director Ryan Coogler, who helmed the film, tied Gina Prince-Bythewood for the most directing awards in the ceremony’s history.

The film’s clean sweep of the acting categories featured Michael B. Jordan for Lead Actor, Wunmi Mosaku for Supporting Actress, and Miles Caton for Breakthrough Performance, marking the first time this has occurred since the category restructure.

Jordan became the third actor to win the Lead Actor Bolt twice, joining Denzel Washington, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and the late Chadwick Boseman.

“Sinners” also set new benchmarks in technical categories.

Autumn Durald Arkapaw became the first woman to win Outstanding Cinematography, Hannah Beachler received her third Outstanding Production Design award, and Ludwig Göransson won both Outstanding Score and Original Song for “I Lied to You,” performed by Miles Caton.

The film’s 14 wins surpassed the previous record of 10 set by Black Panther at the 19th Black Reel Awards in 2019.

Other notable achievements included Zoe Saldana becoming the first female actor to claim two career Bolts for Outstanding Voice Performance for her work in Avatar: Fire & Ash, and costume designer Paul Tazewell joining Ruth E. Carter as a multiple-time winner in Costume Design.

Additional awards included Outstanding Documentary for The Perfect Neighbor, Outstanding Independent Film for 40 Acres, and Outstanding Short Film for The Devil is Busy.

International recognition went to On Becoming a Guinea Fowl from Zambia, the UK, and Ireland.
