Rivers APC rejects impeachment of Governor Sim Fubara

Rivers APC rejects impeachment of Governor Sim Fubara, urging lawmakers to maintain democracy and protect state stability

The All Progressives Congress in Rivers State has officially rejected the impeachment process initiated against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu.

The party’s position was outlined in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Darlington Nwauju, on Friday.

The Rivers State APC acknowledged the independence of the legislature but described the impeachment threat as “unfortunate” and linked to lingering disputes from the Peoples Democratic Party.

The statement emphasised that the budget, the stated reason for the impeachment, had already been transmitted and approved by the National Assembly during the emergency rule period in May 2025, covering one year until August 2026.

Rivers APC urged all members of the State Assembly, particularly APC lawmakers, to resist external pressures and immediately halt the impeachment process.

“It will be totally untenable for our party to keep quiet when an obvious hangover from strifes that occurred within the PDP are allowed to resurface,” the statement read.

The party stressed that continuing the impeachment would damage the image of the APC and hinder the ongoing progress and development of Rivers State.

It called for the state to remain a democracy rather than a politicocracy.

Rivers APC reiterated its commitment to ensuring the stability of the Fubara administration, describing it as vital to the continuous governance and development of the state.
