Rite Foods CEO turns birthday wishes into brand storytelling

Rite Foods Limited Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Seleem Adegunwa, has drawn attention to creative brand communication after using his birthday appreciation message to showcase the company’s products and identity.

The initiative, highlighted in media reviews, took an unconventional approach to acknowledging the goodwill and birthday wishes he received, combining a personal expression of gratitude with elements of the company’s brand portfolio.

At the centre of the creative was a playful caricature of Adegunwa holding a bottle of LIDA Malt, Rite Foods’ recently introduced non-alcoholic malt beverage.

The visual blended humour, warmth and familiar brand references to deliver a message that went beyond a conventional birthday acknowledgement.

The design also featured BIGI and Fearless, alongside Ososa in Ogun State, where Rite Foods’ manufacturing operations are based.

These references connected the chief executive’s personal milestone with the company’s products, operations and wider corporate identity.

LIDA Malt received prominent visibility in the appreciation message, illustrating how a product can be incorporated into everyday communication without relying on a traditional advertising format.

Rather than presenting the beverage through a conventional promotional campaign, the creative placed it within a relatable personal moment. This approach allowed the product to feature naturally in a message whose primary purpose was to thank well-wishers.

The execution demonstrates how brands can explore alternative ways to maintain visibility while preserving the human purpose behind their communication.

In Nigeria’s competitive fast-moving consumer goods market, companies continue to seek ways to distinguish their products and connect with consumers.

Creative storytelling can complement conventional advertising and public relations by linking products to familiar experiences, personalities and moments that audiences can relate to.

Adegunwa’s birthday message illustrates how a personal occasion can become an opportunity to communicate a company’s brand personality and showcase different products in a single visual.

The approach also highlights how innovation in marketing extends beyond product development and manufacturing to the way businesses present themselves, communicate with their audiences and identify opportunities for engagement.

For Rite Foods, the creative execution brought together leadership, product visibility and corporate identity through a message of appreciation.

By incorporating LIDA Malt, BIGI and Fearless into the birthday communication, the visual linked the chief executive’s personal milestone with the company’s wider portfolio while retaining the celebratory purpose of the message.

The initiative offers an example of how businesses can approach everyday communication with imagination and strategic intent, turning familiar occasions into opportunities to reinforce brand recognition and strengthen their corporate story.
