Prof Oluwaseun Omotayo commends Dapo Abiodun for completing the Gateway International Airport, praising Gbenga Daniel for the project’s original vision
Prof Oluwaseun Omotayo commends Dapo Abiodun for the completion of the Gateway International Airport in Ogun State, describing it as a remarkable achievement that reflects the continuity of governance and visionary leadership.

Omotayo, a renowned sports psychologist and Founder of the International Sports Institute Education Trust GTE, made the commendation following the inauguration of the first commercial flight at the Gateway International Airport along the Iperu–Ilishan Road on Wednesday.
In a statement issued to journalists, Prof Omotayo applauded Governor Dapo Abiodun for delivering on the project and acknowledged the foresight of former Governor Senator Gbenga Daniel, who first conceptualised the idea during his administration.
“The completion of the Gateway Airport Iperu and the commencement of flight operations is indeed the actualisation of Senator Gbenga Daniel’s OGD Vision,” the statement read.
“The completion of the Airport Project by Governor Dapo Abiodun is highly commendable as it demonstrates that governance is truly a continuum.”
Omotayo further praised both leaders for their roles in bringing the long-envisioned airport to life, describing the development as a major step toward boosting economic growth, tourism, and connectivity in Ogun State.
“Kudos to Abiodun for this realisation and for completing the project for the good people of Ogun State.
The history of the airport, which was conceived by Daniel as a cargo airport, cannot be wished away. Daniel deserves to be appreciated and adequately recognised,” he added.
It will be recalled that despite light showers on the day of the inauguration, passengers turned out in large numbers at the terminal to witness the historic first commercial flight.
ValueJet operated the inaugural flight from the Gateway International Airport to Abuja, marking the official commencement of operations at the state-of-the-art facility.

The Gateway International Airport, located along the Iperu–Ilishan corridor, is expected to serve as a catalyst for economic and industrial development, providing easier access for travellers and investors across Nigeria.
