TikTok star Habeeb Hamzat says suspected hoodlums stole guests’ phones during his traditional wedding as he promises tighter security for his white wedding

Popular Nigerian TikTok creator Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, has alleged that suspected hoodlums stole mobile phones belonging to several guests during his traditional wedding in Lagos, revealing that he has been compensating victims while pledging tighter security for his forthcoming white wedding.

Peller made the disclosure during a TikTok livestream on Monday, describing the incidents as deeply disappointing after what was otherwise a joyful celebration attended by celebrities, social media personalities and family members.

According to the content creator, the reported thefts occurred outside the wedding venue while the ceremony was underway, with several guests later contacting him to say their mobile phones had been snatched by suspected street hoodlums, commonly referred to as agberos.

“I’ve spent a significant amount replacing some of the stolen devices,” Peller said, adding that the unexpected expense had left him frustrated.

Expressing concern over the security situation around the venue, Peller alleged that the number of hoodlums outside far exceeded the invited guests.

“Agbero don occupy Lagos. No be small. Agbero plenty pass guests wey come to my wedding.

Agbero plenty outside. People wey come say dem dey snatch their phones. Una know how many phone I don pay for?” he said during the livestream.

Peller also recounted one incident in which a female guest allegedly lost her phone moments after arriving at the venue.

“One girl, as she reach, na so dem snatch her phone for gate. Dem run away,” he said.

The influencer further claimed that another incident unfolded outside the venue when a pedestrian was reportedly struck by a vehicle after refusing to move away from the road.

“Me wey I dey inside hall dey do my wedding, na so them say I kill person. Agbero stay for front of car. Them say comot, he no gree. The car owner vex con jam am,” Peller alleged.

The reported accident has not been independently verified, and no official statement has been issued by the police regarding the allegation.

Looking ahead, Peller assured supporters that his white wedding, scheduled for August 8, would be organised under much stricter security arrangements to prevent a repeat of the incidents.

“No worry, my white wedding no go be like the way una do that day,” he said, explaining that attendance would be limited to 100 invited guests and that security personnel would be deployed to keep unauthorised persons away from the venue.

The Peller wedding phone theft controversy has cast a shadow over what had become one of Nigeria’s most talked-about celebrity weddings on social media.

Peller and his partner, Elizabeth Amadou, popularly known as Jarvis, held their traditional wedding in Lagos on Saturday under the hashtag #JP2026, attracting widespread online attention and millions of social media interactions.

The celebration also made headlines for the lavish gifts presented to the couple.

Socialite Pascal Okechukwu, better known as Cubana Chief Priest, gifted the newlyweds ₦10 million, while American TikTok personality Gregory Pizarro Jr. reportedly presented Peller with $20,000.

The couple also received a plot of land in Abuja valued at ₦150 million from real estate entrepreneur Lawrence Emmanuel, alongside a fully furnished mansion in Abuja’s Life Camp area reportedly worth ₦400 million from businessman King Ochacho.

Several celebrities attended the colourful ceremony, including actress Iyabo Ojo, singer Zinoleesky, Priscilla Ojo and her husband, Tanzanian music star Juma Jux, broadcaster Daddy Freeze, Papaya Ex, Tee Dollar, Aunty Ramota and other entertainers and digital creators. Fuji musician Sule Alao Malaika provided live entertainment throughout the event.

While the wedding generated widespread admiration for its grandeur, Peller’s account has also renewed conversations about public safety and crowd control at high-profile events in Lagos, particularly where large gatherings attract both invited guests and unauthorised spectators.
