Political violence alarm in Osun as APC alleges attack killed two supporters

The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Osun State has alleged that two of its members were killed and several others injured during an attack on party supporters in Osogbo on Wednesday.

The party said the incident occurred amid rising political activities in the state ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election, accusing suspected political thugs of carrying out the attack.

In a statement released after the incident, the APC alleged that the attackers were linked to individuals associated with Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration.

The claims have not been independently verified, and authorities have not confirmed the identities or affiliations of those responsible.

One of the victims was identified by the party as Adelodun Lateef Olalekan, popularly known as Lexy, a prominent APC supporter in Osogbo Local Government Area.

The party also alleged that the attack was led by individuals identified as Emir Ajagungbade, Nurudeen Alowonle, Esubiyi and Small Rugged. No official confirmation has been provided regarding the allegations.

The Osun attack has renewed concerns about political safety in the state as parties intensify preparations and mobilisation ahead of the next governorship election.

APC described the incident as a serious threat to democratic participation and called for an investigation into the reported violence.

“Two members of the All Progressives Congress were reportedly killed, while several others sustained injuries during the coordinated attack,” the party said in its account of the incident.

The development adds to previous concerns raised by political stakeholders over clashes involving supporters of rival parties during election periods in Nigeria.

Security agencies are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine those responsible.

Governor Ademola Adeleke’s government and other relevant authorities are yet to issue a detailed public response to the allegations.

Political observers have continued to urge parties, supporters and community leaders in Osun State to promote peaceful engagement as political activities increase.
