OPay mistaken transfer refund dispute as Lagos resident claims recipient refused to return N20,000 sent in error and became evasive
A dispute has emerged over an OPay mistaken transfer refund dispute after a Lagos State resident, Nurudeen Usman, alleged that an OPay customer identified as Faith Chinecherem Azubuogu failed to return N20,000 mistakenly sent to her account on Saturday.

Usman said the error occurred after he attempted to transfer funds to his own OPay account but mistakenly entered a number that also belonged to Azubuogu.
He explained that he immediately contacted the recipient to notify her of the error and requested a refund, adding that she initially indicated willingness to return the money after checking her balance.
According to him, subsequent attempts to reach her became difficult, with calls reportedly not connecting and follow up messages going unanswered.
Usman further alleged that the recipient later blocked alternative contact numbers used to reach her, raising concerns about the status of the funds.
Faith Chinecherem Azubuogu, however, denied receiving the money when contacted, stating that she had checked her account and found no such transaction.
She maintained that she operates as a POS agent and insisted the funds did not reflect in her account.
The situation escalated after multiple attempts by Usman to recover the funds reportedly proved unsuccessful, despite initial assurances that the money would be returned.

The case adds to a growing number of disputes involving mistaken transfers on digital payment platforms, where senders often credit unintended recipients due to input errors.
