Ojobo death investigation intensifies as family urges police to protect witnesses and ensure justice in Delta State killing

The family of Kenneth Ojobo, a resident of Okirighwere community in Amukpe area of Sapele, has called on the Nigeria Police Force, led by Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu, to launch a thorough and transparent investigation into his death, amid growing concerns over witness safety and alleged intimidation.

The Ojobo death investigation has drawn attention following claims by the family that individuals with crucial information have been threatened and forced to flee Delta State.

In a statement issued on Friday, the family expressed deep concern about the handling of the case, warning that fear among witnesses could undermine justice.

According to the statement, some witnesses have reportedly relocated to Abuja due to safety concerns, prompting calls for enhanced protection measures.

The family urged authorities to reassure those individuals and encourage their cooperation with investigators.

“Witnesses are scared for their lives. They have been threatened and warned not to speak or return,” the family said, highlighting what it described as a troubling atmosphere surrounding the case.

The family further appealed directly to the Inspector General to take personal interest in the matter, stressing that such intervention would ensure accountability and restore confidence in the investigative process.

The relatives insisted that those responsible for the killing must be identified and prosecuted without delay.

Meanwhile, internal police correspondence indicates that the matter had previously been brought to the attention of authorities.

A memo dated November 17, 2025, from the Force Headquarters in Garki, Abuja, showed that the Force Intelligence Department was directed to act on a petition filed through legal representatives.

The petition detailed an incident in August 2025 involving violence in the community, which reportedly resulted in injuries and the death of Kenneth Ojobo.

It also raised concerns about ongoing threats to residents in the area.

Legal representatives for the complainant emphasised the need for a comprehensive and fair investigation, urging law enforcement agencies to uphold due process while ensuring that anyone found culpable is held accountable under the law.

The Ojobo death investigation now stands as a critical test of law enforcement response, with community members and observers calling for decisive action.

The case has also underscored broader concerns about witness protection and public trust in the justice system.

As pressure mounts, the family maintains that justice for Kenneth Ojobo remains non-negotiable, expressing hope that authorities will act swiftly and decisively to resolve the case and restore a sense of security in the affected community.
