Supporters of Senator Gbenga Daniel have urged members to stay away from the Ogun East APC senatorial primary over security concerns

The Supporters of Senator Gbenga Daniel have asked the former governor to distance himself from the All Progressives Congress senatorial primary in Ogun State scheduled for Monday, May 18, 2026, citing alleged threats and rising tension ahead of the exercise.

The supporters, operating under the BATOGD Movement, made the call in a statement issued to journalists on Sunday and jointly signed by coordinators across the three senatorial districts of the state.

The group also advised loyalists and party members supporting Daniel to avoid the venues of the primaries for their personal safety.

The APC had fixed May 18 for its National Assembly primaries nationwide. Reports indicated that Dapo Abiodun is among those contesting for the party’s Ogun East senatorial ticket.

According to the statement, members of the movement had contributed significantly to strengthening the ruling party within the senatorial district since joining the APC.

The supporters said they had travelled across communities in Ogun East to mobilise grassroots backing and empower residents in support of the party’s activities.

The statement also acknowledged the support received from Bola Tinubu, describing it as encouraging for party members in the zone.

However, the group claimed recent developments surrounding the primary election had raised fears among supporters.

“We have experienced actions that are contrary to democratic principles where fairness should prevail,” the statement said.

The movement alleged that some individuals had been making threats against its members in the days leading to the primary.

The supporters described the atmosphere as troubling and called for calm, fairness and adequate security during the exercise.

The warning has added fresh political tension to the Ogun East APC contest, which has continued to attract attention within the ruling party ahead of the 2027 elections.
