Obasa Agege Reps bid gains momentum as the Lagos Assembly speaker formally joins the APC race for the federal seat

Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has formally declared his intention to contest for the Agege Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the forthcoming All Progressives Congress primaries.

Obasa announced his decision on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Agege, Lagos, where party leaders and loyalists gathered to discuss preparations for the APC primary elections.

The sixth-term lawmaker said his decision to enter the race followed extensive consultations with political stakeholders and party leaders within the constituency.

According to him, several leaders in Agege encouraged him to seek the federal legislative position in order to continue serving the constituency at the national level.

“I answered the call of our leaders and stakeholders who believe I can serve Agege better,” Obasa told party members during the meeting.

The Obasa Agege Reps bid is expected to reshape political alignments within the constituency as mobilisation efforts intensify ahead of the APC screening and primary exercises.

The speaker urged party members to remain united and committed to the success of the party throughout the electoral process.

Obasa also appealed for support for former Agege Local Government chairman, Ganiyu Egunjobi, who is contesting for the Agege Constituency I seat.

“Egunjobi has served our people diligently and deserves the support of all loyal party members,” he said.

The speaker further canvassed support for Azeez Ninolowo, describing him as a committed aspirant capable of representing the interests of residents effectively.

Obasa stressed that the constituency required experienced and dedicated representatives who understood the challenges confronting the people.

“We must present candidates with capacity, loyalty and commitment to the progress of Agege,” he added.

The declaration has added to the growing list of aspirants seeking elective positions within the All Progressives Congress in Agege.

Supporters and political loyalists of various aspirants have intensified consultations and grassroots mobilisation as the party moves closer to its primaries.

Residents of Agege and Orile-Agege are also closely monitoring political developments as party leaders conclude internal discussions ahead of candidate selection.

The announcement has further shifted attention away from earlier speculation linking Obasa to the Lagos governorship race.
