Koko Zaria Remanded for Assault

A Lagos court has remanded NURTW leader Koko Zaria over charges of assaulting Yoruba actor Lawori, endangering his life.

[dropcap]A[/dropcap] Lagos Chief Magistrate’s Court has ordered the remand of Ganiyu Oyedepo, widely known as Koko Zaria, a prominent leader in the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), for assaulting veteran Yoruba actor Lawori.

The charges, classified as conspiracy, assault causing harm, and conduct likely to disturb public peace, have sparked public outcry.

The incident, which occurred on June 5, 2024, in Idimu, Lagos, involved Oyedepo and his associates.

Lawori took to social media to cry for help, revealing the severity of the alleged attack on him by Koko Zaria.

His plea gained traction, prompting a swift reaction from the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who assured the public that justice would be served.

Chief Magistrate B. Sonuga, during the arraignment on August 5, 2024, ordered Oyedepo’s remand.

The court proceedings, marked under case number B/40/2024, were led by Prosecutor Morufu Animashaun from the FCIID’s legal department at Alagbon. Oyedepo now faces serious allegations that could lead to further legal actions.
