The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Zamfara State Command, has arrested nine suspects in connection with alleged vandalism and theft at a government secondary school, recovering dried cannabis during the operation.

The command said the suspects were apprehended following intelligence-led operations targeting criminal activities in the state, particularly the destruction and theft of public infrastructure.

According to the NSCDC, the first suspect, Alhaji Haruna Amadu, 55, from Tsageru village, was arrested on September 8, 2026, at about 3:00 p.m. His arrest reportedly led operatives to eight other suspects allegedly connected to the vandalism and theft.

Those arrested include Aliyu Aliyu (40), Isah Umar (40), Hassan Shehu (35), Garba Ibrahim (60), Ibrahim Suleiman (55), Sani Ibrahim (50), Bashir Muhammad (35) and Ibrahim Lawali (35). The suspects are all residents of communities within Zamfara State.

The NSCDC said investigations indicate that the suspects were involved in the vandalism of facilities at Government Day Secondary School, Tsageru, where valuable school property was allegedly stolen.

Items reportedly recovered include vandalised building materials and other properties believed to belong to the school, while operatives also recovered a quantity of dried cannabis sativa during the operation.

The command described the vandalism of educational infrastructure as a serious threat to learning and warned that public institutions would continue to receive enhanced security protection.

It reiterated its commitment to protecting government assets and combating crimes ranging from vandalism and theft to drug-related offences across the state.

The NSCDC also urged residents to continue providing credible intelligence, stressing that community cooperation remains vital to tackling criminal activities and safeguarding public infrastructure in Zamfara.
