Nigerian Navy hands over suspected IPOB operatives to DSS in Anambra

Five alleged IPOB and ESN-linked suspects moved to DSS custody for further investigation in Anambra State.

Nigerian Navy transfers IPOB suspects to DSS in Anambra for investigation into alleged links with ESN and criminal activities

The Nigerian Navy has transferred five suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), to the Department of State Services (DSS) in Anambra State for further investigation.

Nigerian Navy moves IPOB suspects to DSS custody, operation followed their arrest by personnel of the Naval Outpost, Onitsha, operating from Forward Operating Base, Amiyi, after intelligence reports linked them to alleged criminal activities in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State.

According to a statement signed by Naval Director of Information, Abiodun Folorunsho, preliminary investigations indicated that one of the suspects was believed to be a coordinator of the group’s activities within the affected communities.

Other suspects were also identified as having alleged connections to the network, with initial findings pointing to locations reportedly used for meetings and recruitment activities.

The Navy said the suspects were handed over to the DSS in line with inter-agency cooperation protocols to ensure further investigation and appropriate action.

The service described the operation as part of its ongoing commitment to internal security support and efforts aimed at combating criminality, violent extremism and threats to national security.

It reaffirmed its continued collaboration with other security agencies to maintain peace, stability and the protection of lives and property across the country.
