Nigerian American political participation gains focus as UNAC-MD urges community members to vote and seek public office in Maryland

United Nigerian Americans Council leader Chris Ademiluyi has reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to promoting Nigerian American political participation in the United States through voter mobilisation, advocacy and leadership development initiatives.

Ademiluyi, speaking in a statement made available to Diaspora Tales on Friday in Maryland, United States, said the organisation was established in 2019 to encourage more members of the Nigerian American community to register to vote, participate actively in elections and contest for political offices.

According to the community leader, the council remains focused on empowering Nigerians in the diaspora to become influential voices in democratic processes and policy discussions within their adopted communities.

“Our vision and dedication continue to guide the organisation’s efforts in advocating greater political participation and representation in Maryland,” Ademiluyi stated.

The Nigerian American political participation campaign, she explained, is aimed at building stronger awareness within the community while encouraging members to recognise the value of civic engagement beyond financial contributions to political candidates.

Ademiluyi said the organisation believes voting remains one of the most powerful tools available to citizens seeking meaningful representation and policy influence.

“UNAC-MD is committed to raising awareness and building support within the Nigerian American community,” she added.

She further noted that the organisation seeks to nurture a generation of passionate voters capable of shaping electoral outcomes and influencing public policy decisions across Maryland and other parts of the United States.

The remarks come amid growing conversations around the increasing visibility of Nigerians and other African immigrants in American politics, public service and grassroots advocacy.

Observers within diaspora communities say organisations such as the United Nigerian Americans Council are helping to strengthen civic consciousness among immigrants while encouraging broader representation within US political institutions.
