Nigeria vs Egypt: What to know before decisive WAFCON 2026 clash

The Super Falcons of Nigeria will face Egypt in a decisive 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Group C encounter on Wednesday, August 5, with a place in the quarter-finals still up for grabs.

The crucial fixture will be played at the Stade Olympique de Rabat in Morocco, with kick-off scheduled for 9 p.m. West African Time. At the same time, group leaders Malawi will take on Zambia in the other final Group C match.

Nigeria heads into the encounter knowing victory could be enough to secure a place in the knockout stage, depending on the outcome of the match between Malawi and Zambia.

One of the most intriguing qualification scenarios would emerge if Zambia defeat Malawi and Nigeria overcome Egypt.

In that case, Nigeria, Malawi and Zambia would all finish the group stage on six points, leaving the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to separate the three teams using head-to-head results.

Only the top two teams in the group will advance to the quarter-finals, making Wednesday’s fixtures among the most important matches of the tournament so far.

The Super Falcons, Africa’s most successful women’s national team, are aiming to defend the WAFCON title they won at the previous edition.

Egypt, meanwhile, will be looking to keep their own qualification hopes alive with a positive result against the defending champions.

Fans can watch the match live on AfroSport, one of the tournament’s official broadcast rights holders. The game will also be available on SuperSport and CAF TV.

With qualification hanging in the balance and several possible outcomes capable of reshaping the Group C standings, the clash between Nigeria and Egypt promises to be one of the standout fixtures of the group stage.
