Speaking at a Public-Private Dialogue in Lagos themed Inclusive Agribusiness in Nigeria,” Consular General Michel Deleen emphasized the urgent need for systemic reforms.
The event marked the conclusion of the 2SCALE agricultural accelerator programme, a 13-year initiative funded by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Deleen warned that Nigeria’s current farming yields fall significantly below potential and international standards. “Nigeria needs a green revolution.
From seeds to storage and transport, every link in the agricultural chain must be improved,” he said, adding that while the 2SCALE programme has been impactful, broader nationwide reform is needed.
The Netherlands support for Nigerian agriculture under 2SCALE connected over 130,000 farmers to markets, with a strong emphasis on youth and women inclusion.
Meanwhile, Bank of Agriculture CEO Ayo Sotirin revealed plans for a ₦1.5 trillion recapitalization to enhance farmer access to financing another power move toward sustainable agribusiness in Nigeria.

With food insecurity rising and local agriculture still underperforming, this partnership signals renewed hope for inclusive, scalable solutions to transform Nigeria’s agribusiness sector.
