Speaking during an interview on the Afropolitan Podcast, Mr Eazi explained that his decision is driven by a desire to preserve his originality as a musician.
The singer clarified that his stance has nothing to do with rivalry or personal differences, stressing that he genuinely respects and enjoys Burna Boy’s artistry.
According to Mr Eazi, he is highly impressionable when it comes to music and fears that constant exposure to Burna Boy’s sound could unconsciously influence his own style.
“Burna is one of the only guys that I like. I’m genuinely a fan of him,” Mr Eazi said during the podcast conversation.
The artiste added that he intentionally limits how much of Burna Boy’s music he listens to because listeners may begin to hear similarities in his own recordings.
The comments have sparked conversations among fans online, with many praising the honesty and self-awareness behind the singer’s approach to creativity and artistic identity.
A notable highlight from the discussion was Mr Eazi’s description of himself as “a sponge”, suggesting that he easily absorbs musical influences from artistes he admires.
