Miss Ikeja Heritage winner Odenike Mofisinoluwa Dorcas receives recognition from Onigbongbo LCDA Chairman Moyosore Adebanjo in Lagos

The Executive Chairman of Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Moyosore Adebanjo, on Monday, 26 October 2026, hosted Miss Ikeja Heritage winner Odenike Mofisinoluwa Dorcas at his office in Lagos, congratulating the Onigbongbo-born beauty queen on her achievement and celebrating the potential of young people in the community.

The courtesy visit also brought together the pageant’s first runner-up, Dorcas’s father, the competition’s organiser and other well-wishers, providing an opportunity to recognise the contestants’ efforts and encourage them to pursue their ambitions beyond the competition.

Adebanjo announced the meeting in a statement shared on his X account, expressing particular delight that Dorcas, who hails from Onigbongbo LCDA, had emerged victorious in the heritage pageant.

“I was particularly delighted to receive Odenike Mofisinoluwa Dorcas, who proudly hails from Onigbongbo LCDA and emerged as the winner of the pageant,” Adebanjo said.

The chairman congratulated both contestants, urging them to remain focused, confident and committed to their aspirations.

He also offered words of encouragement to those who did not secure the winning title, stressing that a competition’s outcome should not define an individual’s abilities or future prospects.

“I also reminded the other contestants present that not winning a competition does not mean you lack the potential to succeed,” he said.

Adebanjo added that setbacks and disappointments could serve as valuable experiences when approached with the right attitude.

“Every experience is an opportunity to learn, grow, and prepare for something greater,” he said.

The message placed the emphasis on personal growth rather than the pageant’s final rankings, offering a wider perspective on the value of participating in competitions that challenge young people to develop confidence, discipline and a stronger sense of purpose.

Further details reported by The Lagosian Magazine indicate that the chairman also discussed support for the contestants, including gifts in recognition of their efforts.

The publication reported that Adebanjo intended to engage relevant stakeholders over the possibility of facilitating Dorcas’s participation in a future United Nations General Assembly programme.

Such participation was presented as a potential opportunity for wider exposure, although no confirmed invitation or travel arrangement was established in the available reports.

The publication also reported that Dorcas presented a personal project focused on empowering young girls through mentorship, helping them explore career options, recognise their strengths and prepare for future opportunities.

If developed, the initiative could extend the significance of her pageant title beyond public recognition by connecting her platform with practical community impact.

Dorcas’s achievement comes against a broader backdrop of growing interest in heritage pageants as platforms for cultural expression, youth engagement and community representation.

In Lagos, similar initiatives have attracted public-sector attention. In August 2026, reports by The Guardian and Punch documented the Lagos State Government’s expressed willingness to support the Miss Surulere Beauty Heritage Pageant through opportunities linked to tourism, culture and community development.

Although the Miss Surulere initiative is separate from the Miss Ikeja Heritage competition, the two examples illustrate how heritage pageantry can be positioned as more than a beauty contest, particularly when contestants are encouraged to champion cultural identity and community projects.

Onigbongbo LCDA itself is one of the local council development areas created in Lagos State in 2003 as part of efforts to bring governance closer to communities. Recognition for a local contestant therefore provides an opportunity to connect individual achievement with a wider conversation about youth participation and grassroots development.

For Dorcas, the title offers a platform from which to build her public profile and pursue initiatives that matter to young people.

For the council, the reception signals an interest in recognising local talent and encouraging residents to view achievement as a starting point for further contribution.

The next measure of the pageant’s wider value will be how effectively its visibility translates into sustained opportunities, mentorship and community engagement.

Adebanjo’s message to both the winner and the other contestants was clear: success should not be measured solely by a crown, but also by the determination to learn, grow and make a meaningful contribution.
