Rotaractor Michael O. Ekerin was formally installed as the third District Representative of Rotaract District 9112 on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at OGRA Hall, Ogudu GRA, Lagos, marking a significant leadership transition for the district and placing service, responsible leadership and community impact at the centre of the new administration.

The Grandeur Legacy Investiture brought together Rotaractors, Rotarians, past district representatives and other members of the Rotary family to witness Ekerin assume responsibility for leading the district.

The ceremony was not simply an investiture. It also served as a moment of reflection on the work of previous administrations and an opportunity to set expectations for the leadership ahead.

In his acceptance remarks, Ekerin was encouraged to listen carefully to the people he would serve and remain conscious of the responsibility attached to leadership.

The message reflected one of the central themes of the occasion: that leadership within Rotaract should be measured not only by titles, but by the ability to translate responsibility into meaningful service.

The welcome address was delivered by Rotaractor Olarewaju Seyi, while Rotarian Alexander Chukwu chaired the occasion. Dr Abiodun Omotola Omenka delivered the keynote address, with Rotarians, Rotaractors and other guests joining the celebration.

The event also provided an opportunity to acknowledge the contribution of previous district leaders whose work has helped shape the development of Rotaract District 9112.

Among those identified in the programme were Rotarian Charles of Ikoyi, the District Representative-Elect, and Rotarian Nike Mayaki, a Past Assistant Governor who also served as chief launcher.

A particularly important moment came with the formal presentation and acceptance of the district leadership responsibility by Ekerin.

Goodwill messages followed from other District Representatives, who expressed confidence in the incoming administration and encouraged Ekerin to build on the achievements of those who served before him.

The keynote session broadened the discussion beyond the change of leadership, focusing on service, collaboration and the responsibility of Rotaractors to contribute positively to their communities.

Participants were also encouraged to make effective use of available resources and work collectively towards organisational goals.

Those messages are particularly relevant to a youth-focused organisation such as Rotaract, where leadership development is closely connected to practical community service and professional growth.

The investiture also carried a celebratory character.

Entertainment and interactive sessions were woven into the programme, with master of ceremonies MC Johnny Extra helping to maintain the atmosphere throughout the event.

A musical performance added to the festivities, while representatives of Vitabiotics were invited to speak about micronutrient supplements and nutritional needs.

A video presentation provided another reflective moment, highlighting past leaders and their contributions to the organisation through what was described as the Rotary Hall of Fame.

The recognition of past leaders gave the occasion a sense of continuity, reminding attendees that Ekerin’s administration is part of a longer leadership journey rather than an isolated transition.

For Ekerin, the new responsibility comes with the opportunity to shape the direction of Rotaract District 9112 while strengthening the culture of service and fellowship that underpins the organisation.

His installation also places greater attention on how the new administration will convert its leadership mandate into practical programmes capable of benefiting communities across the district.

Rotaract, as part of the wider Rotary family, places considerable emphasis on developing young people through service, leadership and professional engagement. District leadership therefore carries responsibilities that extend beyond ceremonial representation.

The success of Ekerin’s tenure will ultimately depend on how effectively the new administration listens to members, works with existing structures and turns available resources into sustainable initiatives.

The Grandeur Legacy Investiture offered an optimistic beginning to that process.

As Michael Ekerin begins his tenure as the third District Representative of Rotaract District 9112, the emphasis now shifts from the ceremony to implementation, with members looking towards an administration capable of preserving the district’s legacy while creating its own meaningful chapter in the years ahead.
