Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Transportation, Sola Giwa, disclosed the warning in a statement on Sunday, after preliminary investigations indicated that the truck, registration EKY 120 YK, was speeding at the crest of Apakun Bridge inward Oshodi when it collided with a silver Toyota Corolla, registration EKY 289 HM.
The collision caused severe traffic disruption and posed a direct threat to lives and property. Two pedestrians were struck, and the Corolla driver sustained serious injuries.
Giwa confirmed that the injured were promptly rescued and transported to a nearby hospital for intensive care.
Traffic management officers and personnel from the Ajao Estate Police Division were deployed to manage the scene and prevent secondary incidents.
Given the combustible nature of the truck’s cargo, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and Rapid Response Squad were strategically involved to mitigate further risk.
Giwa condemned the growing frequency of accidents caused by reckless speeding among operators of heavy-duty vehicles, describing such behaviour as “egregiously irresponsible, dangerously negligent and wholly antithetical to the Lagos State Government’s aspiration of a safe, orderly, and efficiently regulated transportation ecosystem.”
