The blaze, which began at approximately 5:50 a.m., involved the trailer’s container, though its contents were yet to be confirmed. Emergency teams from the Lagos State Transport Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service promptly responded to contain the fire.
In an official statement, LASTMA reported that the traffic backlog extended beyond Opic junction, noting: “Our officers are on the ground managing traffic, and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue team is addressing the fire. The backlog extends past Opic turning.”
This incident follows a series of recent fires in Lagos, including a vessel catching fire during repairs at Kirikiri Canal, Apapa, which injured one person, and a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) vehicle that went up in flames on Mile 12 Bridge along Ikorodu Road, though all passengers escaped unhurt.
