Teen arrested in kwara state following dispute emerged after videos circulating on social media showed the teenager at a police facility, sparking public outrage and protests from some residents who alleged wrongful arrest.
Spokesperson of the command, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, dismissed the claims as misleading, stating that the police acted based on a reported case of housebreaking and theft.
According to the police, the complaint was filed on 30 April at the Arandun Police Division, leading to an investigation into the incident.
Authorities alleged that the main suspect, a 19-year-old identified as Timothy Aransiola, fled after the report and has since been under surveillance.
The command further stated that the suspect’s younger sister, Esther Aransiola, was invited for questioning on 1 May over alleged obstruction of arrest.
Police maintained that the teenager was interviewed in line with standard procedures, cautioned, and later released to a guardian on bail.
The statement emphasised that her brief detention was lawful and conducted within established legal frameworks, rejecting claims of misconduct by officers.
The command added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and urged members of the public to verify information before sharing online.
