All Progressives Congress releases screening timetable for National Assembly aspirants in Abuja

Kano women rally for AA Zaura, demanding fairness from APC leaders over the Kano Central senatorial ticket

Hundreds of women supporters of Abdulsalam Abdulkarim Zaura, popularly known as AA Zaura, staged a solidarity march across Kano on Wednesday, demanding what they described as fair political treatment for the All Progressives Congress chieftain ahead of the 2027 elections.

The protesters, operating under the banner of the AA Zaura Women Mobilisation Forum, marched through major streets within Kano metropolis chanting “No Zaura, no vote” while displaying placards carrying messages such as “Justice for AA Zaura,” “Reward loyalty,” and “Kano women stand with Zaura.”

The demonstration comes amid rising political tension within the All Progressives Congress in Kano following the emergence of former governor Ibrahim Shekarau as consensus candidate for the Kano Central Senatorial ticket after a reconciliation meeting involving party stakeholders.

Addressing journalists during the rally, the coordinator of the group, Binta Rabiu Zaura, said the women were demanding fairness and recognition for Zaura’s contributions to the party and grassroots supporters across the state.

“We are here to tell the leadership of the APC that AA Zaura has sacrificed so much for this party and for the people. He deserves justice and fair treatment,” she said.

Kano women rally for AA Zaura as supporters intensify pressure on APC leaders over the future of the Kano Central senatorial contest.

According to Binta Rabiu Zaura, the businessman and politician had empowered thousands of women and youths through humanitarian interventions and business support initiatives across Kano State.

“He has touched many lives, especially among women and young people. We cannot sit quietly and watch him being sidelined,” she added.

The protesters also appealed to President Bola Tinubu and national leaders of the APC to intervene in the political developments in Kano and ensure what they described as a transparent and inclusive process.

One of the demonstrators, Amina Musa, said many grassroots party loyalists were dissatisfied with recent developments surrounding the Kano Central senatorial ticket.

“We are loyal party members, but loyalty should be rewarded. If there is no justice for AA Zaura, many people may lose interest in participating,” she said.

Zaura recently alleged that his ambition to contest for the Kano Central Senatorial seat was taken away from him against his wishes.

The APC chieftain also claimed he was not invited to the reconciliation meeting where six other aspirants reportedly stepped down in support of Shekarau.

The latest development highlights the growing internal contest for influence within the Kano chapter of the ruling party as preparations for the 2027 political season gradually intensify.
