The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has introduced a QR code initiative to help registered voters locate designated centres for verifying their details in Lagos State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The commission also urged voters to check their information in the Register of Voters before the ongoing display exercise ends on October 15, 2026.

Lagos State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Professor Ayobami Salami, disclosed this on Tuesday during a press briefing on the commission’s preparations for the forthcoming general elections.
Salami said the display exercise began on October 9 and was being conducted across the state’s 245 Registration Areas and wards in accordance with Section 19(1) of the Electoral Act 2026.
He explained that the exercise would allow registered voters to confirm the accuracy of their personal information and identify errors or discrepancies requiring correction.
The QR code initiative, he added, was introduced to make it easier for residents to find their designated verification centres and participate in the exercise.
The REC encouraged voters who had yet to check their details to take advantage of the remaining days before the deadline.
Salami disclosed that Lagos had 7,488,633 registered voters, making it the state with the highest number of registered voters in Nigeria.
He noted that the state comprises 20 local government areas, 245 Registration Areas and 13,325 polling units, a scale that requires extensive planning and coordination ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to him, ensuring that voters’ information is accurate is an important part of the preparations for the polls.
The commission is encouraging residents to use the verification exercise to identify mistakes in their details and seek corrections through the appropriate channels.
The REC also announced that the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) had commenced at designated collection centres across Lagos State’s 20 local government areas.
He clarified that the cards currently available were for people who registered between August 25 and December 10, 2025, as well as those who registered between 2011 and 2022 but had not collected their cards, subject to INEC’s records.
However, PVCs for people who registered between January 5 and July 26, 2026, were not yet available for collection.
Salami said the commission would announce the collection arrangements for the outstanding cards through its official communication channels.
He urged eligible voters to collect their cards when available and keep them safe, noting that PVCs are essential for voter accreditation on election day.
The Lagos REC called on political parties, civil society organisations, community leaders and other stakeholders to encourage peaceful participation and responsible civic conduct throughout the electoral process.
He reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to conducting transparent, inclusive, peaceful and credible elections in 2027.
Salami also advised residents to rely on INEC’s official channels for accurate information about voter verification, PVC collection and other electoral activities.
