How applicants can apply for a Nigerian driver’s licence online

Motorists can now apply for a Nigerian driver’s licence online before attending a Driver’s Licence Centre for biometric capture, according to guidance posted on the Nigeria Driver’s Licence portal on Friday, 28 August 2026.

The site lets applicants enter personal details, pay official fees and book an appointment. A visit is still required for verification and fingerprints.

After those stages, a temporary licence valid for 60 days may be issued while the permanent card is printed.

Before starting, gather the following. One: complete training at an FRSC-accredited driving school and obtain the school certificate.

Two: have a National Identification Number. Three: hold a valid means of identification. Four: have a passport photograph. Names and other particulars must match the NIN record.

The application itself runs in this order.

  1. Visit nigeriadriverslicence.org. On a smartphone, switch the browser to Desktop Site if the page does not display correctly.
  2. Select DL Application, then New Driver’s License.
  3. Enter the driving school certificate number and personal information, checking that every field matches the NIN.
  4. Choose a preferred FRSC Driver’s Licence Centre and book a biometric appointment.
  5. Pay through the Remita gateway on the official portal by card, bank transfer or USSD. Do not send money to agents or unofficial accounts.
  6. Print the receipt.
  7. Attend the centre on the booked date with original documents for verification and biometric capture.

The Federal Road Safety Corps still treats the physical appointment as the point at which identity is confirmed.

Paying on the official portal and arriving with matching papers is what turns the online file into a card. Anyone who skips the school certificate, the NIN match or the booked visit will not complete the process.
