Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc (GTCO), led by Group Chief Executive Officer Segun Agbaje, reported a profit before tax of ₦603.03 billion for the half-year ended June 30, 2026, in Lagos, reflecting a resilient performance driven by growth in interest and trading income despite market headwinds.
The GTCO N603bn Profit underscores the group’s ability to sustain earnings momentum, even as a ₦46.2 billion fair value loss moderated overall growth to a marginal 0.4 per cent increase compared with the same period in 2025.

Financial statements filed with the Nigerian Exchange Group and the London Stock Exchange show that interest income rose by 7.5 per cent year on year, while trading income recorded a sharper increase of 24.7 per cent, supporting the group’s core earnings.
Beyond earnings, GTCO strengthened its balance sheet, with total assets rising to ₦18.6 trillion and shareholders’ funds reaching ₦3.3 trillion.
Deposit liabilities showed notable expansion, increasing by 10.3 per cent from ₦12.87 trillion in December 2025 to ₦14.19 trillion in June 2026, signalling sustained customer confidence.
Segun Agbaje said the performance reflects the group’s disciplined strategy and diversified structure, particularly as non-banking segments continue to gain traction.
“Our half-year results speak to the strength of what we have built: a resilient franchise, a strong balance sheet and a business that no longer depends on banking alone,”
Segun Agbaje said. “Fair value movements weighed on reported earnings, but the core business held firm.”
Asset quality indicators also improved during the period, with Stage 3 loans declining to 3.5 per cent at the bank level and 4.6 per cent at the group level.
Cost of risk fell significantly to 0.6 per cent from 2.2 per cent, reflecting stronger credit management and a more stable loan portfolio.
While the net loan book recorded only a modest increase of 0.5 per cent to ₦3.15 trillion, analysts note that the stronger growth in deposits highlights a cautious lending environment alongside a deliberate liquidity strategy.
GTCO N603bn Profit also reflects the growing contribution of its payments, pension and funds management businesses, which continue to support earnings diversification amid evolving financial market conditions.
Looking ahead, Segun Agbaje emphasised that digital innovation will remain central to the group’s expansion strategy.
“The priority now is to execute with discipline and grow responsibly. Digital is our lever for scaling across Banking, Payments, Pension and Funds Management,” Segun Agbaje said.
GTCO has, over the years, maintained a reputation for strong capital buffers, and its capital adequacy ratio remained robust at 34.9 per cent at group level and 29.2 per cent for the bank.
The group also posted a pre-tax return on equity of 35.9 per cent and a cost-to-income ratio of 31.5 per cent, reinforcing its efficiency profile.
