Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday received thousands of supporters at his Maitama residence in Abuja as political groups and citizens urged him to contest the 2027 presidential election.

The crowd, reportedly made up of representatives from more than 1,000 groups across Nigeria, converged on the residence with banners, songs and chants calling for Jonathan’s return to active politics.

Some of the supporters also pledged to mobilise resources and fund a possible presidential campaign if the former leader agrees to run.

Speaking to the gathering, Jonathan warned against reducing the presidential contest to mere excitement, describing the process as serious national business.

The former president stated that the race “is not a computer game” and observed that many Nigerians calling for change were yet to obtain voter cards.

Jonathan said he would consult widely before taking any decision regarding the growing appeals for him to join the race.

He also stressed the importance of peaceful and credible elections, insisting that national stability must remain a priority in Nigeria’s democratic journey.

The powerful show of support has intensified political conversations ahead of the 2027 general election, with many observers now watching closely for Jonathan’s next move.

Jonathan served as Nigeria’s president from 2010 to 2015 and has remained influential in regional diplomacy and democratic advocacy since leaving office.
