Fubara says APC defection natural, claims he was never active in PDP

Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara says his defection from the PDP to the APC was natural, claiming he was never fully active in the PDP

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has described his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress as a natural decision.

Speaking with journalists at the APC headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, Fubara said he was never fully involved in PDP activities.

“If I have to be honest, was I really a member of the PDP? I wasn’t,” he said.

Fubara claimed most of the challenges he faced during the Rivers political crisis were imposed by the party.

“Whatever I suffered during the political crisis, 90 per cent of it was imposed on me by the party. I was in my former party just nominally,” he said.

Using a metaphor, the governor explained his stance within the PDP.

“During the crisis, you couldn’t associate me with any group. I was not inside the house. I was on the balcony,” he said.

Fubara said joining the APC was an easy choice and aligned with his long-held political beliefs.

“When you say I am a new member of the progressive family, that is correct. But I have always been a progressive at heart,” he said.

He pledged to unite party members in Rivers State and work with other progressives to deliver development.

Fubara also said his defection was a way of showing appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and contributing to national progress.
