Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, on Thursday in Port Harcourt dissolved the State Executive Council and dismissed all Special Advisers in a sweeping move that signals a significant political reset in the state.

The action was conveyed in a Government Special Announcement issued by the newly appointed Chief Press Secretary, Mr Onwuka Nzeshi, who also confirmed his own appointment in the same statement.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara directed all commissioners and special advisers to hand over immediately to the Permanent Secretaries or the most senior officers in their respective ministries.
The announcement expressed appreciation to the outgoing members of the Executive Council and wished them well in their future endeavours.
In a related development, the governor relieved his former Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, of his appointment. No official reason was provided for the decision.
The Fubara cabinet dissolution comes against the backdrop of a recent peace deal brokered in Abuja by President Bola Tinubu between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, following months of political tension involving the Rivers State House of Assembly.
This marks the third intervention by President Bola Tinubu in the protracted Rivers political crisis involving Governor Siminalayi Fubara, the minister, and lawmakers loyal to the former governor.
Political observers believe the development may pave the way for a reconstitution of the cabinet in line with understandings reached during the Abuja talks.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara is expected to forward a fresh list of commissioner nominees to the Martin Amaewhule led House of Assembly for screening and confirmation in the coming days.
Sources familiar with the arrangement indicate that some loyalists of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory may be accommodated in the new cabinet, while a number of the sacked commissioners could also be reappointed.
