Femi Adebayo reveals the piracy strategy behind Ageshinkole 2 as the film earns over ₦400m in 12 days through community cinema screenings

Nigerian actor and filmmaker Femi Adebayo has disclosed how a deliberate anti-piracy strategy helped his latest film, Ageshinkole 2: King of Thieves, record more than ₦400 million in box office revenue within its first 12 days of release.

Speaking in a candid interview, Femi Adebayo said piracy concerns were addressed through a tightly controlled distribution framework led by Circuit TV, one of the film’s key collaborators, working in partnership with distributor Blue Pictures.

Femi Adebayo explained that Circuit TV deployed a structured content protection system that significantly limited unauthorised reproduction, while Blue Pictures provided logistical coordination across screening locations nationwide.

According to Femi Adebayo, the collaboration blended technical safeguards with distribution experience, ensuring the film reached audiences without the usual revenue leakages that plague local releases.

In December 2025, Femi Adebayo announced an unconventional release model for Ageshinkole 2, opting for a Community Cinema Tour across Nigeria rather than a strictly traditional cinema rollout.

The initiative was designed to take the film directly to grassroots audiences while reinforcing controlled access to screenings.

The filmmaker said the approach was both a gesture of appreciation to fans and an innovation aimed at reshaping film distribution in Nigeria’s informal markets.

Ageshinkole 2 is a sequel to the original franchise, which achieved widespread commercial and cultural success.

The new instalment deepens the storyline with heightened drama, suspense, and culturally grounded storytelling, with screenings running through December 2025 and into early January 2026.

Industry observers say the film’s early performance underscores the growing importance of alternative distribution models in Nigeria’s film sector, particularly as producers seek sustainable ways to curb piracy while expanding audience reach.
