A video circulating on social media has sparked widespread reactions after a man claimed he ended his marriage following a dispute over the payment of a ₦24,000 hospital bill for their sick daughter, despite alleging that his wife had ₦600,000 in her personal account.
In the emotional narration, the man said their daughter fell seriously ill and required urgent medical attention, but the hospital demanded ₦24,000 for treatment.

According to him, his wife declined to contribute financially despite having sufficient funds at the time.
“Our daughter fell seriously ill. The hospital demanded ₦24,000. My wife said nothing, even with ₦600,000 sitting in her account,” he said.
He further explained that he eventually had to seek financial help from others to settle the medical bill, adding that he chose not to ask his wife directly because he had recently sent her money for food at work.
The man’s account has generated debate online, with many users divided over issues of financial responsibility within marriage, communication during emergencies, and shared obligations in family healthcare decisions.
The dispute has also reignited broader conversations about trust, transparency and financial expectations between partners, particularly in households where both spouses maintain separate incomes.
While some commentators sympathised with the man’s frustration over the emergency situation, others urged caution, noting that social media narratives often lack full context and may not capture the full dynamics of private family disputes.
