Security sources say suspects in the coup plot against Tinubu administration bought 32 vehicles for covert operations, intelligence gathering and logistics
Security agencies have uncovered that individuals allegedly involved in the coup plot against the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu procured at least 32 vehicles to support covert operations aimed at destabilising the Federal Government, according to security sources familiar with the investigation.

Sources disclosed that military investigators recovered documentary evidence showing the purchase of multiple Volkswagen Golf cars and sports utility vehicles, which were allegedly used to facilitate discreet movements, intelligence gathering and access to sensitive locations across strategic parts of the country, including airports and public facilities.
Investigators believe the vehicles enabled operatives to blend into civilian traffic, avoid detection and carry out reconnaissance activities connected to the alleged coup plot.
One senior security source said the cars were deliberately selected to appear inconspicuous while allowing rapid deployment across different locations.
Documentary records of the purchases, including receipts and transaction trails, were reportedly recovered during the investigation and now form a central part of the evidence being assembled against the suspects.
The records are said to detail how the vehicles and other logistics were financed and distributed among members of the network.
The investigation has also identified a retired major general, Adamu, as a key figure linked to the alleged plot. Security sources said the retired officer escaped arrest, while at least three other suspects remain on the run.
One of the fleeing suspects was reportedly traced to a South American country, although officials declined to disclose the precise location for security reasons.
Multiple security agencies are now working jointly to dismantle remaining cells associated with the plot, with enhanced surveillance and cross border intelligence cooperation underway.
Officials said the ongoing operation reflects a resolute effort to neutralise all residual threats.
Preparations for prosecution are also advancing. Sources within the defence and security establishment said authorities are awaiting presidential approval to formally constitute a court martial panel to try military personnel implicated in the alleged coup attempt.
At least 25 military officers and personnel are expected to face trial, according to a security source.
In addition, an unspecified number of civilians are currently in custody and being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the State Security Services for alleged roles in financing, logistics and coordination.
Security officials said further arrests are likely as investigations continue, with more revelations expected regarding the structure, funding channels and operational planning behind the failed coup plot against the Tinubu administration.
The development follows earlier reports that in October last year, 16 military officers were arrested over an alleged plan to overthrow the elected government.
The plot, which was uncovered in late September 2025, reportedly led to the cancellation of the Independence Day parade amid heightened security concerns.

Although military authorities initially described the arrests as disciplinary matters linked to service infractions, the Defence Headquarters later confirmed in January that a coup plot had been uncovered and that indicted officers would face trial.
