Chidera Eggerue says marriage benefits men more

Chidera Eggerue has stirred reactions after claiming marriage mainly benefits men and admitting she would leave a broke partner

British-Nigerian author Chidera Eggerue has triggered heated reactions online after sharing controversial opinions about marriage, relationships and financial expectations during an appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast.

Speaking on the podcast, Chidera Eggerue argued that marriage as an institution was largely designed to favour men, claiming that the system gives even poor men access to companionship.

The author further stated that she would leave a partner who loses his wealth, insisting that financial stability remains important in her relationships.

“Marriage as a system already was designed to benefit men. Marriage allows for even the poorest of men to still have a companion,” she said.

Chidera Eggerue added that many people often criticise women for seeking wealthy partners while imagining situations where such men later become financially unstable.

According to the author, she would not remain in such a relationship if her partner lost his money.

“He loses his money, he loses me. I move on,” she stated.

The outspoken writer also defended her position, saying she was unwilling to soften her opinions simply to make men feel comfortable.

“I’m here to represent the women who are not going to p¥ssyfoot around trying to make men feel better,” she added.

The comments have since generated intense conversations across social media, with supporters praising her honesty while critics questioned her views on commitment and marriage.
