Carter Efe sparks backlash after controversial remark about Shank during IShowSpeed visit, triggering heated reactions online

Nigerian comedian and singer Carter Efe has sparked controversy after criticising fellow content creator Shank Comics over his interaction with American streamer IShowSpeed.

In a viral clip circulating on social media, Carter Efe questioned why Shank allegedly dipped his hand into food meant for IShowSpeed during a recent meet-up.

“IShowSpeed is bigger than most Nigerian celebrities in Nigeria, so why will Shank deep his dirty Yoruba hand in his food,” Carter Efe said in the video.

The remark, which referenced ethnicity, immediately triggered mixed reactions online.

While some supporters interpreted the statement as humour typical of online banter, others criticised the comment as unnecessary and offensive.

The exchange appears to stem from a recent appearance involving IShowSpeed and several Nigerian creators, during which clips of informal interactions quickly spread across platforms.

Neither Shank nor IShowSpeed has publicly responded to the allegation at the time of filing this report.

The development adds to growing tensions within Nigeria’s online entertainment space, where collaborations with international streamers often generate both excitement and rivalry.

Observers say such public call-outs, though sometimes framed as jokes, can rapidly escalate into broader debates about respect, professionalism and cultural sensitivity in the digital age.
