Bolu Balogun Yoruba post sparks online backlash as Wizkid’s son celebrates heritage and triggers debate over ethnic identity on social media

Bolu Balogun wrote, “Omo Yoruba! Me I no dey fear face,” accompanied by music and sunglasses emojis, a phrase interpreted by many followers as an expression of cultural pride.

The post quickly attracted mixed reactions across social media platforms. While some users praised Bolu Balogun for confidently affirming his roots, others accused Bolu Balogun of promoting ethnic division.

Several critical comments came from accounts identifying with different ethnic backgrounds, with some users questioning why Bolu Balogun chose to publicly highlight Yoruba identity in a manner they considered provocative.

Other users defended Bolu Balogun, arguing that expressions of cultural pride should not be misconstrued as hostility towards other groups.

The exchanges triggered a broader conversation about how ethnic identity is expressed and perceived in Nigeria’s online space.

Ayodeji Balogun, known globally as Wizkid, has not publicly commented on the reactions to the post at the time of filing this report.
