Suspected Boko Haram terrorists killed one soldier after attacking a military base in Logomani community, Ngala Local Government Area of Borno State, before setting fire to a police outpost, a primary healthcare centre and two classrooms in a coordinated overnight assault.
The attack began late on Tuesday when the insurgents launched an assault on the Forward Operating Base in Logomani, forcing residents to flee as gunfire echoed across the community.

After the clash with troops, the attackers moved into the town, torching public facilities before retreating.
Acting Military Information Officer of Headquarters Joint Task Force North-East Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Muhammed Goni, confirmed the incident on Thursday, saying troops eventually repelled the attackers despite suffering casualties.
“Troops of Operation HADIN KAI deployed at Forward Operating Base Logomani successfully contained a coordinated attack by ISWAP terrorists,” Goni said.
He added that the insurgents briefly breached part of the base’s defensive perimeter during an intense firefight before troops regrouped and launched a determined counter-offensive.
“Regrettably, one gallant soldier paid the supreme price, while two gun trucks and some combat enablers sustained damage during the engagement,” Goni said.
According to the military, several attackers were killed during the operation, while others escaped with gunshot wounds.
Reinforcements have since been deployed to the base, while clearance and exploitation operations continue to strengthen security in the area.
Residents described the assault as swift and coordinated, saying the terrorists operated for several minutes after overwhelming the military position.
“We all left the community during the attack. The terrorists were very sophisticated. After they overpowered the Army, they entered the school and burnt down two classrooms. They also attacked a police outpost and a hospital, which they burnt down,” one resident, who requested anonymity for security reasons, said.
A local security source said personnel from the military, the Nigeria Police Force and the Civilian Joint Task Force pursued the fleeing insurgents after the attack, although the group had already moved a considerable distance.
On Wednesday, Mala Tijjani Ngala, Executive Chairman of Ngala Local Government Council, visited Logomani to assess the damage.
The chairman inspected the destroyed police outpost, healthcare centre and school buildings before assuring residents that the findings would be forwarded to the Borno State Government for urgent intervention.
Mala Tijjani Ngala also appealed for calm and urged residents to continue cooperating with security agencies as efforts to secure the area continue.
The latest Boko Haram attack in Borno underscores the persistent security challenges facing communities in the North-East despite years of military operations against insurgent groups.

While Operation Hadin Kai has recorded significant successes in dismantling terrorist strongholds and encouraging the surrender of thousands of fighters, remote communities in Borno continue to experience periodic attacks targeting both security formations and civilian infrastructure.
